PHYSICAL EDUCATION - GOVERNMENT FUNDING
Academic Year September 2014 to July 2015
The Pupil Sports Premium is a grant allocated to schools based on the number of children in the school excluding the foundation stage children. Schools are entitled to spend their Pupil Sports Premium in a way they think will best to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in Primary Schools.
At Lee Chapel we endeavour to provide every pupil with access to the very highest standards of P.E. Physical Education. We have a clear philosophy that we want to provide children with sporting opportunities that they would not otherwise have access to. The school’s extensive range of opportunities beyond the school day, enhance the children’s development. This Grant will enable the school to expand its provision still further.
The school’s Governing Body and Leadership Team decide how best to spend the grant in order to further enhance provision in P.E. and Sports to improve outcomes for children. The 2014/2015 allocation is £10225 and will be used for to provide quality Physical Education (PE) lessons and teaching via Specialist PE Teachers who are expert practitioners in their field (Netball, Athletics, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Basketball and Gymnastic Coaches) in order to continue to provide quality Out of Hours School Sports Clubs for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils. There are currently nine sports clubs for Key Stage 1 and twenty sports club for Key Stage 2 (ranging from traditional sports such as Football, Netball, Basketball, Gym, Rugby to Table Tennis, Short-Mat Bowls, Street Dance and Cheerleading). Each club is lead by two to three trained adults who can fully support and enhance the needs of pupils of all abilities.
At Lee Chapel the new Government funding for Physical Education for will be spent on:
All children will be actively encouraged to participate in Level 2 and Level 3 Competitions against other schools – Lee Chapel has a proven record of success in Local and County Competitions in a range of sports (Football, Netball, Athletics, Cricket, Basketball, Rugby) and we want to extend this to other sports (Dodgeball, Infant Games). We will continue to host Inter Schools Sports Competitions (Police Rally, Athletics Meetings, Rugby Competitions). Progress data shows a direct correlation between participation in sports and high academic achievement and this will continue to be promoted.
Providing opportunities for our Gifted and Talented Pupils to extend their skills both via our own clubs (Football Squad, Gym Squad, Netball Squad) but also via external organisations (Basildon District Football team, Gifted and Talented Gym days/Athletics events, Football Academies and Local Secondary School Initiatives)
Proactively encourage the links with local sports club to encourage our children to participate in sport outside of school (Lee Chapel Youth FC, Basildon Rugby Club, Billericay Rugby Club, Basildon Cricket Club, Flames Netball Club)
Purchasing specialist equipment to develop traditional and non-traditional sports (Cheerleading, Table Tennis, Dodgeball)
Inspiring the next generation of talent via Special Days where Famous/Inspirational sportsmen and women are invited to Lee Chapel to discuss their life stories and how the children can follow in their footsteps.
As part of the monitoring of the Pupil Sport Premium allocation we endeavour to ensure that the specialist coaching and teaching will have an impact on promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Our ultimate goal at Lee Chapel is to maximise the participation in sport of all children and ensure that every child benefits from having access to and enjoying a variety of sports. We currently hold the KiteMark ‘Silver’ Award and will attain ‘Gold’ in Summer 2015.
