Athletics is an extremely popular sport at Lee Chapel and our after school club caters for budding stars from years 5 and 6 during the autumn and summer terms. Our outstanding athletics team also represented the school with pride and distinction in several inter-schools events last year; winning the Basildon Sportshall Athletics Competition and the BEST Spring Games, gaining a highly reputable top ten place in the Essex Sportshall Athletics Competition and a fantastic 30th overall in the East of England. We also competed with honour at the Basildon Districts Sports Athletics Finals with notable performances coming from Paige Stephens and Carlie Dinham who finished 1st and 3rd in the Year 3 Girls' Sprint. Particularly pleasing was that, of all the schools in the area, Lee Chapel had more qualifiers for finals day than any other.
During the winter term Cross-Country takes over and is equally popular with many of our KS2 children. The after school club is well supported and involves hours and hours of fun, running around our purpose-built course. Again we compete in several inter-schools events and last year we were extremely successful in the Basildon Cross-Country Competition, in particular at Year 3 level where our boys and girls both won overall team titles and Archie Gordon and Carlie Dinham won individual championships. At county level we again excelled, achieving several top 20 performances despite some incredibly tough competition. This year we hope to use the invaluable experience to push on and achieve even more.
