Google Classroom 'Live' Lessons
While the school is closed to all except Key Worker and Vulnerable pupils we are pleased to offer the same high quality teaching we have in school in the form of 'Live' lessons, delivered using Google Classroom.
All pupils from Reception to Year 6 who are not eligible to attend school or are Key Worker pupils who are self- isolating, will be taught 'live' lessons each day in a 'virtual' class.
9:30am - English
11am - Maths
In the afternoon (times differ according to class) - a Foundation subject in KS1, a Foundation subject and a Big Read lesson (KS2).
The children are able to watch the lesson and interact with a teacher, asking questions and receiving the same support they would in school. They then complete the work set and 'turn in' their work to be marked and feedback given. If they are unable to attend the 'live' lesson, they are all recorded to be accessed later on.
All children have been provided with their login details, but if you have any problems accessing the lessons, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Below are some help sheets for using Google Classroom, which you may find useful, some frequently asked questions and our Acceptable Use Agreement for 'Live' lessons
Frequently asked questions
Why is my child not being taught by their class teacher?
To provide the best education for your children, we have split the staff in each year group into Key Worker ‘bubble’ teachers and virtual class teachers. The children who are remote learning have then been split into three classes, each taught by a teacher they know from their year group.
I have logged in, but it is asking for code
Access to the classroom does NOT require a code, if it is asking for one, your device is still logged into a different Google account -it sometimes reverts the default one for the device. Logout and then login to the child’s account.
I cannot see my child’s virtual class
Again, please make sure you are logged into the correct account
We are logged in, but cannot access the 'live' lesson.
Children are unable to enter the 'Virtual' classroom, until the teacher arrives.
My child cannot attend the ‘live’ lesson today
Please do not worry, all lessons are recorded and uploaded so they can be accessed later the same day
I have two children and only one computer, what do I do?
Let them take it in turns to attend the ‘live’ lessons and the other watches the recording. Google classroom can also be used with an Xbox, Playstation 4, tablet or iPad
Does my child have to take part?
Yes, there is an expectation that all children engage in the learning, their educational attainment will be severely impacted if they continue to miss out on schooling during the pandemic. The attendance and participation of all children will be monitored, just as in school
Is there homework as well?
No, they are working hard enough
Will there be any additional work set?
Spellings will be set on Spelling Shed and we ask that children read daily, either with physical books or using the Oxford Reading Buddy site, but nothing else.
We are unable to email via the G-mail option
In order to safeguard the children, the option to use Gmail, Google Hangouts, Chat and Groups have all been disabled.
