We only offer salaried positions.
Trainees will be employed by the Lee Chapel Academy. The amount for September 2018 was £9500 for 10 months from 1st September 2018 until 30th June 2019 (Salary for 2019-2020 to be confirmed)
The cost of training will be covered by Lee Chapel along with the DBS fee (a new DBS with "Trainee Teacher" designation must be obtained). This in addition to the £9500 salary in which the trainee teacher is paid monthly

This route involves trainees undertaking most of their training in house. Approximately 20 days during the ten month long course (September to June) will be spent with Essex Teacher Training on courses relating to subject knowledge and professional skills.
In addition to the training at Essex all trainees will attend a half day training session at Lee Chapel Primary every week to consolidate what is being learnt on courses and on their placements.
Trainees are assigned a Class Teacher Mentor and placed in a ‘home’ class where opportunities are provided to observe experienced teachers and teach lessons. During one half of the second term the trainee will move to another school to undertake their Second Placement in an alternative Key Stage for half a term.
The course leads to a QTS qualification, however credits for additional work can be collected towards a higher qualification, PGCE (60 masters credits) awarded by the University of Derby. The trainee will be responsible for the cost of this, which is payable to Essex Teacher Training.
Application and Recruitment Process
Applications for training placements need to be made through UCAS (www.ucas.com). Trainees must meet the following requirements prior to application:
- You must have a degree at 2:2 or above
- You must have at least a GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths and Science or equivalent.
- You must have had at least two years of paid, full time work experience but this does not have to have been working with children.
- Proven experience of working / volunteering with children will strengthen an application

Prior to acceptance on the course you have to have passed the literacy and numeracy skills tests. These can be booked on this link: Skills Tests
As of February 2018, these tests can be taken without charge (for the first three attempts in each).
When applying on the UCAS website please ensure the work experience section clearly states the place of work, the dates worked there, whether full or part time and a brief summary of responsibilities/duties. As two years of paid work experience is a requirement of the course then filling in this section correctly is vital. This work does not have to be in a school or educational environment.

Once the application has been made to UCAS, short listing takes place in preparation for the interview. Candidates will complete a short maths activity and a story share activity in two opposing key stages. The interview process also consists of a written task, the title of which is set by Essex Teacher Training and a formal interview.
‘Throughout the training course I found the directors extremely helpful and supportive. Sally and Dave would always be quick to respond to any issues or questions no matter how big or small. They would always provide advice when required. I found them extremely supportive while I was ill and helped to minimise stress while I was recovering and helped me ease back in. I also found my external tutor extremely helpful and again she was always there with advice and support when required. When it came to applying for jobs I felt well prepared from the input provided from Sally and Adam and I was lucky enough to get a job at my host school.
