Lionesses visit Lee Chapel

On Friday 11th November,  Lee Chapel were delighted to invite representatives from West Ham United Foundation and the women's football team including Lucy Parker (England and West Ham defender), Sophie Hillyerd (West Ham goalkeeper) and Dani Bowman (West Ham’s first team coach). Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 eagerly waited in the theatre for the arrival of the West Ham players, who received a huge round of applause as they arrived on stage. The presentation began with a question-and-answer session for the players. A range of brilliant questions were asked which allowed children to gain a good insight into the lifestyle of a professional footballer including their routines, hobbies and best moments. However, the best part was yet to come. The Lee Chapel girls’ football squad were called onto the stage to receive an exciting invitation as a reward for their excellent performance in the Primary Stars football tournament, which they attended in September. Aidan Boxall (West Ham Women's general manager) explained how proud West Ham were of the girls who represented them in September and shared a video from a few of the West Ham players who also congratulated them on their success. Shortly after, the players in attendance presented the girls with a mascot ticket each for West Ham United Women vs Birmingham City Women later this month. This will be an incredible occasion where the girls will be mascots or flag bearers for the West Ham women's team. As you can imagine, they were extremely delighted about this. As the presentation ended, the West Ham staff spent their time talking to the girls’ football squad and kindly offered to sign their invitations. Furthermore, the players also made their way to the school astro to sign autographs and have photos taken for other Lee Chapel pupils... an incredibly kind gesture which was appreciated by many children. The girls’ football squad are eagerly waiting to attend the West Ham women's match and we look forward to working with the West Ham United Foundation in the future to inspire more children to take up football and other sports.
